Malacañang has allocated P278 million to assist local government units with relief and recovery efforts following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on June 8.
On June 16, the General Santos City government announced that around 30,252 homes were damaged by the earthquake. More than 120 buildings remain unsafe for the public, including 15 government buildings, 25 schools, and 84 establishments tagged red.
The funds from the Socio-Civic Projects Fund were distributed to areas such as Sarangani and General Santos City, which received P50 million each. South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat were also listed with P30 million each.
In education, many schools in SOCCSKSARGEN gradually returned to normal operations starting June 15. According to DepEd, 1,501 schools suffered damage, and P363 million is needed for cleanup and minor repairs.
