Greta Gerwig's adaptation of 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew' is now set for a theatrical release on February 12, 2027, followed by Netflix on April 2, 2027. The film, previously slated for Thanksgiving 2026, will include Imax sneak previews starting February 10. It stars Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, and Emma Mackey.
Greta Gerwig is writing and directing the fantasy adventure, based on C.S. Lewis’s sixth Narnia novel, which serves as a prequel to 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' The story centers on the creation of Narnia by Aslan, with children Diggory and Polly discovering the 'Wood between the Worlds' via a magical ring. Emma Mackey plays Jadis, the White Witch, while David McKenna portrays Diggory. Mark Ronson is scoring the music after collaborating with Gerwig on 'Barbie.' Netflix acquired rights to all seven Narnia novels in 2018, marking the first time one company held them fully. Prior adaptations include Disney's 2005 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,' 2008 'Prince Caspian,' and 2010 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.' Gerwig shared her enthusiasm in a Tudum interview: “Working with Netflix to bring this film to life has been extraordinary and Imax continues to be an incredible partner. I cannot wait for people to see the film in theaters on February 12 and on Netflix on April 2.” She added, “I was a child when I first read ‘The Magician’s Nephew,’ and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life.” Imax stated, “From the outset, we got involved with ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ to support Greta Gerwig and see her vision realized to the fullest in Imax.” The C.S. Lewis company noted, “It’s incredibly moving to see how deeply Greta Gerwig has embraced C. S. Lewis’s world, and infused ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ with joy, heart, and genuine love for the story.”
