Remittances to Huila grew 14.7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, reaching a record 46.6 million dollars.
According to Banco de la República data, the amount sent by Huila residents abroad translated to 0.2 trillion Colombian pesos. Growth in local currency was only 1.3% due to the strengthening of the peso against the dollar.
The United States contributed 45% of the total, equivalent to more than 21 million dollars. Other countries followed with 32% and Spain with 20%.
Economist Carlos Velásquez of Alianza Fiduciaria noted that remittance growth in 2025 was 6.6% in the department. Nationally, remittances reached 13,098 million dollars in 2025.
