Inauguration of Träffpunkt Svartbäcken in Fyrishov on March 11

Träffpunkt Svartbäcken will be inaugurated on March 11 in new premises at Fyrishov in Uppsala. The facility moved there after closing its previous location due to renovations. The event offers opportunities to socialize and ask questions about activities for seniors.

Träffpunkt Svartbäcken has relocated to a venue in Fyrishov after the previous site, Träffpunkt Karl-Johan, closed in December due to renovations at the Karl-Johan care home. Once renovations are complete, the facility will remain in the new Fyrishov premises, and the name has been changed to Träffpunkt Svartbäcken.

Visitor Maita expresses enthusiasm for the reopening: "It is fantastic to experience the warm community at the meeting points, and I was incredibly well taken care of at Träffpunkt Luthagen where I trained while Karl-Johan was closed. But I really look forward to meeting wonderful and skilled Omed, Carolin, and Karin again."

The new premises are adapted to meet the needs of the activities, and from March 11, visitors can enjoy coffee, socialize, and join in events. Operations manager Taha Baroudi states: "We will be at Fyrishov from now on. But the premises we have moved into are only temporary; in about a year, we will move into larger ones at Fyrishov. We have adapted the current premises as much as possible to work practically for both visitors and staff."

Activity leader Omed, health educator Karin, and physiotherapist Carolin anticipate reuniting with visitors: "We have really missed meeting the visitors. We will open different parts gradually, but from the start, the assembly room and the exercise area will be available."

Gun Britt Wester, a former participant, adds: "It will be wonderful to meet new and old visitors. It is important for us elderly with various disabilities to have suitable premises where we can exercise and socialize together."

The inauguration takes place on Wednesday, March 11, from 9:00 to 11:00 at Idrottsgatan 2 in Fyrishov. Attendees can tour the facilities, connect with friends and staff, and ask about the programs. Present will be Uppsala residents aged 65 and over, staff, Asal Gohari (S), chair of the elderly committee, and Caroline Blomberg-Ohlström, division chief at Uppsala municipality. Coffee and a bun will be served.

Träffpunkter 65+ are open activities for all Uppsala residents over 65, offering pursuits such as woodworking, crafts, gardening, exercise, and coffee. Entry is free, though costs apply for materials, food, and refreshments.
