The Joburg Super Kings launched their SA20 campaign with a decisive 22-run victory over the Pretoria Capitals at Centurion. This marked their first win against their Gauteng rivals at the venue in four seasons. Key performances from Rilee Rossouw with the bat and Duan Jansen with the ball secured the triumph.
In the opening match of the SA20 cricket tournament, the Joburg Super Kings posted a competitive total of 168 for 6 after batting first at Centurion. Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 48 runs, providing a solid foundation for the innings.
The Pretoria Capitals' response began promisingly, with openers Bryce Parsons and Will Smeed putting on 71 runs for the first wicket. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Duan Jansen, twin brother of Proteas player Marco Jansen, produced a career-best spell of 4 wickets for 23 runs. His intervention dismantled the Capitals' chase, leaving them all out for 146 for 9 in their 20 overs.
Tymal Mills, the English seamer for the Capitals, was their standout bowler with figures of 2 for 17, but it was not enough to stem the flow. This victory ends a four-season drought for the Super Kings at Centurion against their local rivals.
The team celebrated on social media, posting: "Unwrapping your X Mas Gift…. And it’s a W! 🎁💛✨ 1️⃣st ever victory at Centurion! 🥳🙌🏼 #PCvJSK #WhistleForJobug #ToJoburgWeBelong #SA20"
