Jolla launches pre-order for new Sailfish OS Linux phone

Jolla has started a pre-order campaign for a new Jolla Phone, described as an independent European Do It Together Linux device shaped by its community. The phone runs Sailfish OS and emphasizes privacy without Big Tech influences. Production depends on reaching 2,000 pre-orders by January 4, 2026.

Jolla, a Finnish company known for its Sailfish OS, is attempting once more to bring a new Linux-based smartphone to market. On December 5, 2025, the company kicked off a crowdfunding-style campaign for the Jolla Phone, positioning it as a community-led alternative to mainstream mobile operating systems.

The device features a Mediatek 5G SoC, 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage expandable to 2TB via microSDXC. It includes a 6.36-inch FullHD AMOLED display with approximately 390ppi pixel density, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and Gorilla Glass protection. The 5,500mAh battery is user-replaceable, and the phone supports 4G/5G with dual nano-SIM slots and a global roaming modem configuration. Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC. Cameras consist of a 50MP wide and 13MP ultrawide rear setup, plus a front-facing wide-lens selfie camera. Other highlights are a fingerprint reader on the power key, a user-changeable back cover, an RGB indication LED, and a configurable physical Privacy Switch to disable features like the microphone, Bluetooth, or Android apps.

All specifications were voted on by Sailfish OS community members over recent months. The phone ships with Sailfish OS, which supports Android apps and offers at least five years of updates, no tracking, no calling home, and no hidden analytics. It honors the original Jolla Phone's form factor and comes in Snow White, Kaamos Black, or The Orange colors.

Pre-orders are available for 99 EUR, fully refundable and deducted from the 499 EUR full price (including local VAT). The phone will be manufactured in Europe, with initial sales in the EU, UK, Switzerland, and Norway, but designed for global roaming, including U.S. networks. As Jolla states, “The Jolla Phone is not based on Big Tech technology. It is governed by European privacy thinking and a community-led model.”
