Kenya Navy Commander Major General Paul Otieno held talks with US and Japanese naval chiefs during the International Naval Review in New York to expand maritime cooperation.
The meetings occurred on the sidelines of the International Naval Review and International Aerial Review marking the 250th anniversary of the United States and the US Navy. More than 50 nations participated in the event officiated by US Vice President JD Vance.
On July 6 Major General Otieno met US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle. The pair discussed steps to enhance the Kenya Navy's operational capability and Kenya's role as a maritime anchor state in the Western Indian Ocean.
Major General Otieno also met Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Chief Admiral Akira Saito aboard the training ship JS Kashima. The talks explored mutual interests in the Indo-Pacific and Western Indian Ocean regions and ways to strengthen professional exchanges against threats including piracy, terrorism and illegal fishing.
