A spy photo from Italian publication Moto.it shows KTM testing a new big-bore supermoto-tourer on public roads. The bike appears based on the LC8c platform with 17-inch wheels, resembling the previous 890 SMT. KTM plans fresh releases after recent financial difficulties.
KTM is preparing a series of new motorcycle models following years of financial challenges. Among them is an updated supermoto-tourer, likely the KTM 990 SMT, as indicated by a recent spy photo published by Moto.it. The image depicts a blacked-out adventure-style bike on 17-inch wheels undergoing road tests. This design echoes the 890 SMT, tested in 2024, and the earlier 990 SMT from about 15 years ago, which used a 990 V-twin engine. The current SMT lineup draws its engine and frame from KTM's LC8c Adventure series. The 890 SMT specifically uses components from the Adventure models, and a similar approach is expected for the 990 version. However, no 990 Adventure exists yet, though one may arrive this year. Alternatively, it could pair the 890 Adventure frame with the 990 Duke engine. Spy photos remain speculative and do not confirm production timelines. KTM has not officially commented on the sighting.
