Borussia Mönchengladbach missed a chance to boost their relegation fight, drawing 1-1 with FSV Mainz 05. Joe Scally gave the hosts an early lead, but Nadiem Amiri equalized with a stoppage-time penalty.
Borussia Mönchengladbach hosted FSV Mainz 05 in front of 50,245 fans at Borussia-Park and led 1-0 for much of the game. Joe Scally opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a low shot from 15 meters into the far corner, his second goal of the season. Coach Eugen Polanski admitted before kickoff: "I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking at the table."
The hosts defended with passion, goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas making a key save against Paul Nebel in the 67th minute. Mainz played energetically despite their recent Conference League exit. Captain Rocco Reitz faced boos over his upcoming move to RB Leipzig, with the stadium announcer supporting him: "That's our player, folks."
A foul led to a penalty in the 90+8th minute, converted by Nadiem Amiri for 1-1. Gladbach remain 13th, five points above the relegation playoff spot, with VfL Wolfsburg next up. They continue winless in summer time matches.
