A man in his mid-20s has been convicted by Uppsala District Court for causing a traffic accident in which a 35-year-old woman died. The crash occurred on Road 55 outside Enköping in December 2024.
The man fell asleep at the wheel, causing his car to cross into the oncoming lane. On 14 December 2024 the vehicles collided and the woman died. The man escaped without serious injuries.
The court found no other explanation for the crash than that the man had fallen asleep. He denied responsibility but had told witnesses and police he may have fallen asleep. Technical evidence confirmed his car had crossed the centre line.
The man was convicted of causing another person’s death and reckless driving. He received a suspended sentence and daily fines of 39 000 kronor. He must also pay 40 000 kronor in damages to the woman’s relatives.
