Manchester United are awaiting further details on an injury to midfielder Manuel Ugarte sustained during Uruguay's World Cup match against Spain. The 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher in Friday's last-32 clash in Guadalajara.
Ugarte twisted awkwardly while attempting a challenge in the build-up to Spain's winning goal. He left the field visibly distressed, leaving United to assess the situation with Uruguay's medical staff.
The injury adds uncertainty at a time when Ugarte's future at Old Trafford is already unclear. He joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 for £50.8 million but has not played since a Premier League defeat to Leeds on 13 April.
United have agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta's Ederson, though the Brazilian's World Cup commitments have delayed his medical. Discussions continue over other midfield targets including Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott.
