The platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida has distributed a manual defending non-violent direct actions against vacation homes and tourist businesses in Balears. The Government Delegation and Conseller Jaume Bauzá have condemned the document and warned of possible police investigations.
The manual, distributed as a prelude to a demonstration scheduled for July 26, proposes graffiti, lock blockades and other actions against vacation rental homes, real estate agencies and FEHM signs. The platform states that it justifies non-violent direct action against a system that suffocates residents.
The Government Delegation in Balears has indicated that security forces will investigate any acts that may constitute an offense or crime. It has acknowledged legitimate concern over tourism's impact on housing but rejected calls to damage property.
For his part, Tourism Conseller Jaume Bauzá has described the manual as instructions for tourist kale borroka and noted that business associations could take legal action. He recalled previous graffiti against his department a year ago.
