The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said Tuesday that a Marine attack helicopter has entered the final development stage after completing weapons tests.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said the homegrown Marine Attack Helicopter has finished all required weapons tests, including recent live-fire trials of air-to-air missiles, turret machine guns, air-to-ground missiles and rockets.
The program began in October 2022 to give the Marine Corps air support for amphibious operations. A prototype completed its first flight in December 2024.
Development is scheduled to finish by August, with mass production planned for 2027. Once fielded, the helicopter will escort MUH-1 Marineon assault helicopters and provide fire support to ground forces.
