Megadeth releases 'I Don't Care' video from final album

Megadeth has unveiled the music video for their new single 'I Don't Care,' the second track from their upcoming self-titled farewell album set for release on January 23, 2026. Frontman Dave Mustaine describes the punky, thrashy song as an anthemic expression of indifference toward others' opinions. The video, directed by Keith J. Leman, captures youthful rebellion with scenes of skateboarding and band performance.

Single and Video Details

The single 'I Don't Care' follows the band's first release from the album, 'Tipping Point,' which debuted in early October 2025. Musically, Mustaine highlights the track's guitar work, noting that part of the main riff had been in his head since the 2022 album The Sick, The Dying... and The Dead!. He praises the deliberate down-picking, octave chords with jump picking, and the back-and-forth soloing with guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari.

Mustaine explains the song's theme: "How many times have you wanted to say this to someone? I know you want to! Deep down inside, if we had the balls, we would tell more people ‘I don’t care’ more often." The lyrics emphasize personal autonomy, with lines like "I don’t care if I’m out of line... I don’t care because this life is mine."

Video Concept

For the video, Mustaine aimed to evoke his younger days: "I wanted it to be, ‘What it’s like to be a young Dave again, to hang out with my friends, drink beer, light fires, skate, do house parties and all that kind of stuff?'" Directed by Keith J. Leman, known for work with Jonas Brothers and Kenny Chesney, the clip features teens skateboarding, spray-painting graffiti, and rocking out, intercut with Mustaine flipping off the camera and smashing a prop beer bottle over an actor's head. Mustaine enjoyed the energetic actor who got a mohawk and pierced ears on camera, comparing him to Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious.
