Metrópoles Catwalk opens first edition in Brasília

The Metrópoles Catwalk kicked off its first edition on Monday, November 3, at the Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro in Brasília, gathering fashion enthusiasts and creators to spotlight the capital's authorial fashion. The event runs until November 7, featuring runway shows, exhibitions, and workshops in a recently reopened iconic venue. Models like Isabeli Fontana and Caroline Trentini are set to walk alongside local and national brands.

The Metrópoles Catwalk turned the Foyer da Sala Villa-Lobos at the Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro into Brazil's fashion hub on Monday, November 3. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and reopened in December after over 10 years of closure, the space came alive with its iconic water cascade and a runway ready for names like Isabeli Fontana, Caroline Trentini, and Vivi Orth.

Before the main shows, attendees explored three exhibitions. Júlia Theóphilo's 'Redefinindo Curvas,' invited by Senai-DF, reflects her personal battle with scoliosis through asymmetries, textures, and volumes; she is a finalist in the 3rd Desafio Sou de Algodão + Casa de Criadores. Guto Carvalhoneto's 'Construção' explores the evolution of techniques and materials shaping his identity. 'Corpo-Objeto,' a collaboration by Mon Pair, Barbarah, Studio Drèa, and Mil Linhas, spotlights accessories like bags and hats with detailed craftsmanship.

At 2 p.m., the 'Ateliê Digital' workshop, hosted by Senai-DF and led by João Martins and Samantha Farias, demonstrated 3D printers for prototypes and fashion trimmings. Next, Fernando Lackman taught runway techniques, stressing professionalization: “It’s important to highlight that fashion is not a hobby. It’s not just working in the field; it’s being recognized as such.” He added: “From the way you walk, you understand how to move the rest of the body. The secret is not to divert your gaze to the camera.”

A discussion panel with Lucila Pena and Bernardo Rostand covered authorial creation and brand building. Bernardo Rostand shared: “I sought to evolve the brand with a clear purpose. I started in the arts, and fabrics and raw materials inspire me.”

Organized by Instituto Inbras in partnership with Metrópoles and supported by the Distrito Federal's Tourism and Culture Secretariats, the event features 70 models and brands like Hylo Cartis, LUCILA, Sun Rose, Sérgio Caldo, Drama, Biruta, Louback, Telaio, Miwa, intensify.me, Dane-se, and Letícia Gonzaga, plus Gloria Coelho, Aluf, Le Blog, and Reinaldo Lourenço, invited by local multimarcas such as Jeté, Maria, Q.U.A.D.R.A., Hills, and Magrella. The program continues until Friday, November 7, positioning Brasília as a fashion hub.
