Michelle Wie West ended her professional golf career at the U.S. Women's Open at Riviera Country Club. She shot a 75 in the second round to finish seven over par and miss the cut. The former major champion described the experience as enjoyable pressure she will not miss.
Wie West, who won the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, played her final competitive round on Friday. Her long game kept her in contention for the weekend, but putting proved costly. She signed autographs and spoke with friends after the round without visible emotion. Family members including her parents, husband’s father Jerry West, and six-year-old daughter Makenna were present. Makenna joined her mother on the final green before heading off to play with another competitor’s child. Wie West said the return allowed her to feel competitive tension again. “It’s fun to just hit shots under pressure,” she said. She has no plans for regular competition but will participate in select events such as the Women’s TGL and junior tournaments she hosts.
