Kenyan politicians are debating President William Ruto's potential running mate for the 2027 elections, while Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi stays silent on the issue.
In recent months leaders from Mt. Kenya have pushed for Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki to take the slot. Others from Western Kenya back Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Within ODM some Coast leaders favour Hassan Joho while others support Wycliffe Oparanya. Edwin Sifuna has also been named as a possible contender.
On June 13 Mudavadi told a rally at Masinde Muliro University that Ruto is the way forward and warned Western residents against opposition traps. Critics such as George Natembeya argue that Mudavadi and Wetangula may be sidelined by age.
