Following SMHI's forest fire risk warnings issued Friday, multiple blazes broke out across Sweden on Saturday, May 2. Fires reported in Gothenburg area, Årjäng, Uppsala, and elsewhere, with rescue services deploying aircraft and helicopters amid high risks in Götaland, Svealand, and parts of Norrland.
SMHI's high to very high forest and grass fire risk warnings, first issued Friday and covering much of Götaland, Svealand, and now Gävleborg through Sunday, have materialized in several blazes.
Near Gothenburg, a 19-hectare fire in Delsjö started at 17:10; rescue services lack control, monitoring overnight with aircraft and drones due to dangers, per GP.
In Årjäng, 7–8 hectares burned from 16:30; helicopters from Falun water-bombed, operation ended by 22:00 (Värmlands Folkblad).
Additional fires: Partille, Kosta, south of Västervik, Österbybruk (Uppsala county, likely train sparks, high flames calmed by water bombing—Upsala Nya Tidning), Gotland, near Boden, and Åsele.
This continues yesterday's alerts, following reports of nine fires in Örebro county.
