Nato foreign ministers meeting begins in Helsingborg tomorrow

Sweden hosts its first Nato foreign ministers meeting in Helsingborg. The gathering focuses on defense spending, Ukraine and alliance unity.

On Wednesday the government invited Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte for a meeting aboard the Coast Guard vessel Amitrite off Helsingborg. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, Defence Minister Pål Jonsson and Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin took part.

Participants carried out a boarding exercise with a Black Hawk helicopter and drones. They discussed Sweden’s actions against the Russian shadow fleet and the need for Europe to take greater responsibility for defence.

The meeting continues on Thursday with an informal dinner where Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha is a guest together with King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The formal session with the 32 foreign ministers starts on Friday at 10 a.m.
