Neiva's city administration and the Metropolitan Police unveiled a new bicycle patrol strategy involving 15 officers to enhance surveillance in neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces. Part of the “Policía al Barrio” program, it aims to build community trust. The officers are equipped with firearms and radios for quick responses to citizen needs.
Neiva's city administration, alongside the Metropolitan Police, introduced a team of 15 citizen participation agents—all professional officers—who will permanently patrol streets, districts, parks, and sports areas by bicycle.
The strategy aims to respond swiftly to incidents, bolster surveillance, and foster closer ties with residents in Huila's capital. Government Secretary José Ferney Ducuara highlighted its value: “Today we are happy to deliver to the city this group of 15 uniformed officers who will patrol neighborhoods, sports areas, parks, and more. Equipped with firearms and communication radios, they will traverse the city by bicycle, approaching citizens and reacting immediately to their requests.”
Colonel Óscar Aguilar, acting commander of the Metropolitan Police, noted an additional 600 officers for prevention and Easter Week activities. “In Neiva, we will not only have this group of citizen participation agents but also 600 more uniformed officers supporting all prevention activities and ecclesiastical celebrations during Holy Week. This strategy will be integrated, allowing us to work hand-in-hand with citizens for security.”
The move underscores the municipal commitment to safety and coexistence in Neiva.
