New suspect after Gävle shooting
An additional person over 15 is suspected of aiding attempted murder after the Gävle shooting on the night of October 4. A 13-year-old at the time, now 14, is the main suspect for six counts of attempted murder. The incident is gang-related but the victims were not intended targets.
The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. on the night of Saturday, October 4, on Södra Kungsgatan in Gävle, a bar street. Six people were hit by the shots and sustained injuries to their lower bodies, but none were seriously hurt or faced life-threatening conditions.
A boy who was 13 at the time of the incident, and has recently turned 14, is suspected of six counts of attempted murder and a serious weapons offense. He is the alleged shooter. Just hours earlier, less than four hours before the shooting, the social committee decided to take him into custody due to an acute need for protection. Criminologist Sven Granath comments: 'There may have been sharp information about the boy,' indicating significant concern around him.
An additional person over 15 has now been suspected of aiding attempted murder. Prosecutor Jenny Örn states: 'It is investigative measures in the investigation against the 13-year-old that have led to this.' She is leading the preliminary investigation along with Fredrik Normark, who adds: 'It is a person we are interested in and whom we will interrogate.' Normark does not rule out more suspects: 'It is rarely the case in this type of case that there are lone perpetrators.'
Police assess the incident as gang-related, with a method resembling gang feuds, but the victims are not linked to gang environments and were not intended targets. The investigation continues with interviews, technical examinations, and analysis of material. The prosecutors decline to comment on any detentions.
