Nursing student Cecilia Carlsson's placement at a Dalarna hospital was cut short after ten days. Dalarna University deemed her a patient risk. She feels slandered and traumatized.
Ten days into her four-week placement at a Dalarna hospital, nursing student Cecilia Carlsson was called to a meeting. She thought it was a midterm assessment with her teacher, but the placement was terminated. Dalarna University deemed her a patient risk.
Cecilia Carlsson describes the incident as traumatic. "Apart from the event itself being traumatic, my trust in other people is severely damaged," she says. She feels slandered by colleagues, and the university has been silent.
Program coordinator Maria Svedbo Engström at Dalarna University says it is uncommon for nursing students to have their clinical placement (VFU) interrupted. "Sometimes it is not deemed safe and then it has to be stopped," she says. A student can be removed without prior warning if safety cannot be ensured.
