PeaZip 10.7 introduces image viewer and file management improvements

The open-source archive manager PeaZip has released version 10.7, adding a new image viewer and cross-platform thumbnail support. This update enhances usability across Linux, macOS, and Windows with better previews, antivirus integration, and code refactoring. The release focuses on privacy, performance, and compatibility with various architectures.

PeaZip 10.7, released on October 18, 2025, builds on its foundation as a cross-platform file archiver using tools like 7-Zip, p7zip, Zstandard, and FreeArc. A key addition is the integrated image viewer, accessible via File manager > View images, which allows users to preview and view images inside archives or directories. It supports zoom from 5% to 1000%, immersive mode, renaming, secure deletion, and basic navigation. Image thumbnails now display dynamically in the file manager on all platforms, generated on demand without caching to prioritize privacy. Users can toggle thumbnails using the main menu or Ctrl+Space shortcut.

On macOS, the update improves dynamic virtual mode and adds a Quick Look option to the “Open with” menu. Preview support extends to items in Zpaq archives and better browsing of .pkg types. The text preview feature gains search functionality, line/word/character counts, text encoding changes, and word wrapping. An option to explore archive preview paths with the system’s browser is also new.

Under the hood, PeaZip 10.7 upgrades to backend Pea 1.27 and compiles with Lazarus 4.2, while remaining compatible with Lazarus 3.x and 2.x. Refactoring efforts clean up legacy code, improve naming consistency, and update crypto/hash libraries for pure Pascal implementation on non-x86/x86_64 architectures. ClamAV integration is enhanced for better antivirus detection on Linux and macOS.

Extraction improvements include an Advanced tab option to retain files if Zstd fails, more accurate progress reporting for Brotli and Zpaq, and fixes for issues like compression preset loading errors and CRC display inconsistencies on non-Windows systems. The Functions menu now lists core features alphabetically for easier discovery. PeaZip supports 242 archive extensions and translations in over 30 languages, with a call for community contributors.

Various bugs, including focus-stealing in Linux and BSD file browsers, have been addressed. Binaries with GTK and Qt interfaces are available from the official website, or as a Flatpak from Flathub.
