Pisa was mathematically relegated to Italy's Serie B after a 1-2 home defeat to Lecce on Friday. Chilean player Felipe Loyola stayed on the bench without playing. The Tuscan side has just 18 points from 35 matches and trails salvation by 14 points with three rounds left.
Pisa, stuck at the bottom of Serie A, confirmed relegation after a 1-2 loss to Lecce in a crucial match played on Friday. Chilean international Felipe Loyola, signed for the survival push, started on the bench and did not enter the pitch. Lecce's Under-20 World Cup player Matías Pérez also remained unused.
The first half ended 0-0 in a tight contest. In the second half, Lameck Banda scored for Lecce in the 52nd minute. Pisa equalized swiftly through Mehdi Léris in the 56th, but Walid Cheddira secured the visitors' win in the 65th, sealing the hosts' fate.
The Tuscan outfit had risen from Serie B 2024-2025 by finishing second behind Sassuolo, but managed just two wins, 12 draws, and 21 losses in 35 Serie A games this season. With nine points left to play, they cannot catch the 17th place. Lecce's victory also relegated Hellas Verona, 19 points in penultimate.
Loyola, formerly of Huachipato, was on loan from Independiente with a 5.5 million euro purchase obligation triggered after five appearances, met in March. Questions now arise over his future at the club following relegation.
