Police seize nearly a ton of marijuana in Íquira

Authorities in Huila department intercepted a truck carrying 910 kilograms of marijuana hidden in plastic rolls, bound for Bogotá. The driver was arrested after attempting to flee. The seizure is valued at over 600 million pesos.

During control patrols in the urban area of Íquira, Huila, the National Police observed a platón carpa pickup truck with license plate CFU785 refueling. The driver displayed a nervous and evasive attitude, prompting a routine check. When he attempted to leave, he was intercepted meters ahead.

In the detailed inspection, officers found 20 plastic rolls about 1.50 meters long concealing 910 kilos of marijuana. The substance was coated with asphalt dust and vaseline to mask its smell and avoid detection by canine units. The load aimed to bypass police controls en route to the capital.

The driver was arrested for drug trafficking, manufacturing, and possession, and handed over to the Prosecutor's Office along with the vehicle and seized marijuana. According to Colonel Carlos Eduardo Téllez Betancourt, commander of the Huila Police Department, the shipment is valued at over 600 million pesos and prevented the distribution of nearly 1.2 million doses in Bogotá.

This operation delivers a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region.
