Poll shows Ruto leading 2027 presidential popularity

According to an Infotrak poll, President William Ruto leads in popularity for the 2027 presidential race if elections were held today. Fred Matiang’i follows with 13 percent, while 31 percent of Kenyans remain undecided. The survey highlights shifts in support following collaboration with Raila Odinga and a recent by-election victory.

An Infotrak survey conducted between December 19 and 20, 2025, indicates that President William Ruto leads with 28 percent in the popularity for 2027 presidential candidates if elections were held now. Former Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i follows at 13 percent, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 12 percent. Babu Owino holds fourth place with 7 percent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua receives 5 percent.

However, to be declared winner, a candidate needs 50+1 percent of valid votes, suggesting a likely runoff. This ‘End-Year Poll Politics’ survey shows 31 percent of Kenyans undecided, with 4 percent not disclosing their choice. The number of undecided voters has dropped from 43 percent to 29 percent in the previous poll, with Mount Kenya and Western regions leading in indecision.

Ruto's popularity has risen after partnering with Raila Odinga, which helped manage the 2024 Gen Z protests. Additionally, a decisive win in the November by-election dealt a blow to the opposition including Gachagua, Musyoka, and Matiang’i. In party politics, 32 percent of Kenyans feel closest to the Kenya Kwanza government, compared to 22 percent for the united opposition.

The survey also reveals that the Kenya Moja Alliance, led by Babu Owino and others, enjoys 17 percent support. Within ODM, Babu Owino is the most preferred successor to Raila Odinga with 33 percent.
