Polri reveals 300 active members in civilian positions

Polri headquarters has disclosed that around 300 active members occupy civilian positions in ministries and state institutions. This figure refutes claims of thousands of personnel, though it remains surprising. The revelation responds to a Constitutional Court ruling on police assignments outside their structure.

Polri headquarters has finally disclosed the exact number of police personnel assigned to various ministries and state institutions. According to Polri's Head of Public Relations Division, Inspector General of Police Sandi Nugroho, the figure is around 300 members of the Bhayangkara Corps in managerial civilian positions.

"So, it doesn't mean that 4,132 people are all occupying managerial civilian positions that affect meritocracy, no. But there are around 300 people," said Sandi Nugroho on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Sandi explained that these placements are not an initiative of Polri but requests from relevant ministries or institutions. The process involves assessment by the Human Resources Assistant (SDM) to select suitable personnel, followed by the issuance of an assignment letter by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. For officials ranked Inspector General and above, presidential approval is required, while those below need ministerial recommendation.

"So far, the execution of duties and responsibilities of Polri members working outside the structure is based on mechanisms stipulated by law. So, the determination for assignment outside the structure is due to requests from related ministries and institutions," he added.

This disclosure follows the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling on regulations for Polri members' assignments in civilian positions. The National Police Chief held a meeting on Monday, November 17, 2025, to formulate the institution's response. "Polri certainly appreciates and respects the Constitutional Court's decision. This morning, the National Police Chief has gathered relevant officials to discuss the steps that must be taken," said Sandi Nugroho.

However, Sandi did not detail the specific positions or institutions occupied by Polri members.
