Swedish pop icon Robyn has returned with 'Dopamine,' her first original solo single since 2018's Honey, produced by longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund. The euphoric dance-pop track explores the interplay between raw emotions and biological processes, accompanied by a video directed by Marili Andre. This release hints at an upcoming ninth studio album.
Release Details
Robyn dropped 'Dopamine' on November 12, 2025, marking her first new solo material in seven years. The song features pulsating synth-pop rhythms and a hypnotic beat, capturing a bittersweet rush of emotions. It was co-written and produced by Klas Åhlund, who previously contributed to four tracks on her last album, Honey. The single arrives via Robyn's new label, Young, following teases from Åhlund in September 2025 on the Nordmark Pod, where he revealed completing her ninth studio album.
A preview of the track appeared at Acne Studios' Paris Fashion Week show in October 2025, building anticipation for her comeback.
Video and Themes
The accompanying video, directed by acclaimed photographer Marili Andre, shows Robyn dancing through highs and rain, emphasizing the song's emotional intensity. In a press statement, Robyn explained the inspiration: “Everyone has a phone where they see their heart rate, and we’re learning how to decode our emotions through the hormones and chemical substances in our bodies. It’s almost like we don’t even accept that we’re human anymore... The doubleness of ‘Dopamine’ is having an emotion that is super real, super strong, intense, enjoyable or painful, and at the same time knowing that this is just a biological process in my body—and then not to choose religion or science. To just accept that they’re there together and to be able to go in between.”
Recent Activities
Since Honey, Robyn has stayed active through collaborations, including tracks with SG Lewis, Channel Tres, Jónsi of Sigur Rós, Smile, the Lonely Island, Beck, Jamie xx, Lorde on Solar Power, and a remix of Charli XCX's '360' with Yung Lean. She reimagined Neneh Cherry's 'Buffalo Stance' in 2022 and reissued her 2005 self-titled album in September 2025. Live highlights include performances with David Byrne at SNL's 50th anniversary, Gracie Abrams at Lollapalooza, and Jamie xx in Copenhagen and at Glastonbury.
News of the full album and potential 2026 tour dates is expected soon, exciting fans for more from the dance-pop visionary.
