RPG Maker forum set to close in December 2026

Gotcha Gotcha Games has announced the closure of the 14-year-old RPG Maker Forum on December 11, 2026. A new forum called RPG Maker Guild will replace it, but the original content will not be archived.

The announcement came in an official post on the forum, accompanied by a FAQ. It states there are no plans for a public archive or backup. Users are urged to save posts, guides, and resources before the shutdown.

The forum holds extensive resources, including the Legacy Engine support topic with roughly 45,600 threads and 280,000 messages. In total, the site contains 1,416,549 messages. Many indie games such as Omori, To the Moon, and Lisa the Painful were developed using RPG Maker, with development history preserved in forum posts.

Community members have expressed sadness over the loss and are organizing backups, including efforts involving the r/DataHoarders subreddit. The company has provided six months' notice for users to preserve content.

Gotcha Gotcha Games, a Kadokawa subsidiary, cited changes to community management as the reason for the transition to a new platform.
