Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark has discussed ways to improve the team's linebacker play with assistant head coach Joe Whitt Jr.
Clark said he has had multiple conversations with Whitt centered on the second level of the defense. He noted that new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham must address performance issues at the linebacker position.
The Steelers are retaining their core group of linebackers, including Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, Malik Harrison, and Cole Holcomb. Queen is in the final year of his contract, while Holcomb signed a two-year deal in March.
Clark highlighted the addition of cornerback Jamel Dean and safety Jaquan Brisker in free agency. He said the defense has a chance to be really good despite its age.
"Defensively, even though they're old, the Steelers have a chance to be really good," Clark said.
