Serena Williams will return to competitive tennis next week after announcing her comeback on Monday. The 44-year-old is scheduled to play doubles at the HSBC Championships, which begin June 8 at the Queen’s Club in London.
Elina Svitolina, who lost in the French Open on June 2, shared her thoughts during a post-match press conference. She compared Williams to Roger Federer and described the situation as unique. “Serena… it’s a very unique situation. She’s like Roger (Federer)… you know… Maybe not play for a year or something, and then just go and play unbelievable. I think it’s just a different level of GOAT,” Svitolina said. She added that she is excited for the return and called it inspiring for mothers worldwide. Williams last played at the 2022 US Open. She will compete in doubles with a wildcard entry rather than singles. Reports link her to Canadian player Victoria Mboko as a potential partner, though Mboko has not confirmed any details.
