Sheamus is set to depart WWE upon the expiration of his current contract. The former world champion rejected a restructured extension offer from the company.
Fightful Select reported on July 5 that Sheamus will become a free agent for the first time in 19 years. He has been with WWE since 2007 and turned down the new deal while recovering from shoulder surgery.
His final match took place on the November 17, 2025 episode of Raw. There he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to defeat The Judgment Day at Madison Square Garden.
AEW World Champion MJF responded to the news on social media by revisiting a 2022 exchange. He posted a screenshot of an old message from Sheamus and wrote, “Bring that smoke O’Shaunessy.”
Sheamus has since updated his social media profiles to his real name and changed his bio to “Pro Wrestler.”
