At a rally in Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo defended freedom of expression in Mexico. 'In Mexico no one is “subdued” for saying what they think, because there is “freedom of expression, opinion, and demonstration”', she stated, amid discussions on the plan B electoral reform and recall referendum until 2030. 'If the people of Mexico want us to stay, in 2030 we can dedicate it to all the anonymous heroines of our country, to all Mexican women', she added. Accompanied by Governor Salomón Jara, she stressed: 'Here freedoms are respected, no one should be subdued by anyone [...] I say we are the most democratic country in the world and oh! conservatives get so angry. But look, in no other country in the world is the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation elected, only here in our country is the Supreme Court elected'. Sheinbaum downplayed criticisms: 'On March 8, some criticized us, it doesn't matter much to us', referring to recognition of women in the Armed Forces. She reaffirmed national sovereignty citing constitutional article 39 and called López Obrador 'one of the giants' of Mexico. She also acknowledged indigenous women translators for their work in spreading women's rights.
