An attempted robbery of a cash transport truck in Santiago's Barrio Franklin ended in a shootout on Friday morning. One of the assailants died after being shot in the head and two guards were injured.

The incident took place around 10:00 a.m. on San Francisco street in the Matadero sector, while security personnel were replenishing an ATM. According to the Fiscalía Regional Metropolitana Centro Norte, the assailants were waiting for the cash delivery and coordinated the attack.

Fiscal Adjunto Jefe de Flagrancia Fernando Ruiz Delgado confirmed that no money was taken and that the deceased was one of the assailants, a foreign national. The guard acted in self-defense after being shot at.
