Sony Honda Mobility has detailed technical requirements for PlayStation Remote Play in its Afeela electric vehicle, building on last week's announcement. The feature, demoed at CES 2024, requires 5Mbps broadband minimum (15Mbps recommended) to stream PS5 and PS4 games via the infotainment system.
Following the initial unveiling of the Afeela 1 with integrated PS Remote Play—which enables streaming from a home PS4 or PS5 console using a DualSense controller—Sony Honda Mobility shared more specifics. The Afeela prototype first demonstrated this capability at CES 2024, with customer deliveries planned for 2026.
A stable internet connection is essential: at least 5Mbps upload/download for basic functionality, and 15Mbps for smooth 1080p/60fps gameplay. This setup targets passengers during long road trips or stationary drivers, turning travel time into gaming sessions without relying on cloud streaming.
The feature echoes prior EV gaming experiments, such as Tesla's short-lived Steam support in Model S and X. By fusing entertainment with mobility, Afeela aims to attract gaming enthusiasts in the EV market.
