Coach Rassie Erasmus has selected a revamped Springboks side with only 10 players retained from the victory over England for this weekend's Test against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld.
Damian Willemse shifts from fullback to inside centre to partner Jesse Kriel. Handré Pollard returns at flyhalf while Pieter-Steph du Toit captains from flanker.
Embrose Papier earns a recall at scrumhalf after a gap of 2,786 days since his last Test appearance in 2018. Aphelele Fassi starts at fullback with Edwill van der Merwe and Canan Moodie on the wings.
Paul de Villiers retains his place in the back row after an earlier call-up. The front row features Boan Venter, Johan Grobbelaar and Wilco Louw while Ruan Nortje and Cobus Wiese form the second row.
Erasmus said of Papier: “There were really a bunch of good nines playing well... I’m very happy for him personally.” De Villiers noted the management prepares players for sudden opportunities.
