The Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is scheduled to premiere Thursday at 9 p.m. on HBO Max. The series centers on supporting characters Stuart, Denise, Bert, and Kripke as they navigate alternate realities to restore the universe.
The show places the quartet in the lead roles after Stuart accidentally triggers a multiverse catastrophe. Co-creators Zak Penn and Bill Prady emphasized that the characters retain their original personalities from the CBS sitcom.
"These are the wrong people to be in this show. That's the point," Penn said. Prady added that conversations in the series echo the tone of The Big Bang Theory even amid fantastical elements.
Kevin Sussman, who plays Stuart, noted the deeper exploration of his character's relationship with Denise. Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie discussed how their roles expand beyond previous appearances in the franchise.
The premiere marks the first time these characters drive the narrative in a full series.
