A 28-year-old diamond polisher in Surat was arrested on Tuesday after confessing to killing his 55-year-old father with a kitchen knife at their home in the Moti Ved area.
Police said the victim, Rajesh Rathod, suffered knife wounds to his head, shoulder and right hand. His son Subhash initially claimed the injuries were self-inflicted.
The body was sent to SMIMER Hospital for post-mortem. Doctors confirmed the wounds were not self-inflicted, noting that Rajesh was right-handed and the injury on his right hand could not have been made by himself.
Singhanpore police inspector PM Chaudhary said a fight occurred between Subhash, the youngest son, and his father while two brothers were away. The wives present later confirmed Subhash's role in the killing.
Subhash told police that Rajesh had become unstable after his wife's death a couple of years ago and often fought with his sons and their wives, who shared one house on Ved Road.
