A Swedish man in his 30s has been arrested in Cali, Colombia. He is suspected of coordinating major cocaine deliveries to Europe and Dubai.
The man, known as El Sueco, was arrested on Friday in a joint operation by Colombian police, Europol and Swedish police. He was wanted via a red Interpol notice and held high value target status with Europol.
Tullverket is leading a preliminary investigation into very serious drug smuggling. The man has been detained in absentia by Malmö District Court and will be requested extradited to Sweden, according to Martin Norell at the agency's press service.
Colombian authorities describe him as a key figure in a criminal network. The cocaine is said to have been smuggled hidden in cosmetic products by air and sea. He may have had contacts with the Mocro Mafia and the Balkan cartel.
