Australian actress Teresa Palmer has been cast as Phoebe/Sif in Amazon's upcoming live-action God of War TV series. The role marks another key addition following Ryan Hurst's announcement as Kratos. The series, ordered for two seasons, adapts the Norse-era video games focusing on father-son duo Kratos and Atreus.
The God of War TV adaptation for Prime Video has gained momentum with the casting of Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif, the wife of Thor and Norse goddess of wheat, earth, harvest, and family. This announcement comes shortly after Ryan Hurst was revealed as Kratos, the iconic Spartan warrior and god. Hurst previously voiced Thor in the video game God of War: Ragnarök.
Development on the series began in 2022, with pre-production now underway in Vancouver and filming set to start in March. The show has a two-season order, with the first season likely covering events from God of War (2018) and the second drawing from Ragnarök. It centers on Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus as they journey to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother. As the official character description states: "Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human."
Palmer, known for her role as Diana Bishop in the TV series A Discovery of Witches, brings experience from films including Hacksaw Ridge, Warm Bodies, and Lights Out. The series is written, showrun, and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, recognized for Outlander, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica. Frederick E.O. Toye, who directed episodes of Shōgun and The Boys, will helm the first two episodes.
While Sif appears in Ragnarök's Asgard segments, her early inclusion suggests the show will expand on the Norse pantheon. Casting for Atreus remains a key unanswered question, with more announcements expected soon.
