The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry postponed the testimony of witness Tumelo Nku on 2 July 2026 due to security concerns. The announcement followed a shooting that wounded Crime Intelligence officer Feroz Khan, who was scheduled to appear before the commission.
Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga stated that proceedings could not continue because of the security issues involving Nku. The commission is set to resume on Friday, though details on Nku’s future appearance remain unclear.
Nku had testified on Monday about a R286-million cocaine interception in Aeroton, Johannesburg, on 9 July 2021. He described the operation as orchestrated for a trafficker known as Eby and said a relative had connected him to the individual.
The postponement comes after Khan was shot in Johannesburg on Sunday and remains unconscious in hospital. The South African Police Service said it is premature to link the attack to the commission and vowed to treat any interference with judicial processes seriously.
