Three minor boys allegedly gang-raped a six-year-old girl in Bhajanpura, northeast Delhi, on January 18. Two of the accused have been apprehended, while the third remains at large. The victim is now stable but recovering at home and unable to walk.
On the evening of January 18 around 7 pm, the six-year-old girl had stepped out with her father, a rickshaw puller. He dropped her at the entrance of their lane after buying her candy. There, three boys aged 10, 13, and 14 lured her with an offer of chowmein and took her to a nearby empty two-story building where they assaulted her. The girl told her family that her hands were tied and her mouth gagged during the attack. After the assault, the boys threatened her to remain silent. She returned home bleeding heavily and fell unconscious. Her mother revived her with water and, after persistent questioning, learned the truth. The family rushed to Jafrabad police station, and she was treated at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital. A medical report noted she was 'unable to walk' and bleeding, with tests for HIV and other conditions advised. Police apprehended the 10- and 13-year-olds on January 19 and produced them before the Child Welfare Committee. The 14-year-old and his family are absconding. The mother identified the 13-year-old as a neighbor and the others as friends of her late 14-year-old son, who died of illness last year. 'My 14-year-old son died last year due to an illness. These boys were his friends and they used to play together. It’s shocking what they did to my daughter,' she said. The father demanded the accused be tried as adults: 'If they knew what they were doing, they should not be released because they are children. They should be given strict punishment.' Local outrage led right-wing groups to block a road on Monday, demanding the third accused's arrest. Investigators found blood at the site and collected forensic evidence. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Ashish Mishra confirmed the incident but refrained from further details.
