President Donald Trump accused Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of being a "jilted" traitor after she criticized his priorities as president in a 60 Minutes interview, arguing he focused too heavily on international issues over domestic concerns. Greene, a onetime staunch ally, has announced plans to resign from Congress in January, a move that will further narrow the Republican majority in the House.
On Sunday, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared on CBS's 60 Minutes, where she expressed dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump's focus during his tenure.
"For an 'America First' president, the number one focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn't. And so, of course, I was critical, because those were my campaign promises," Greene said in the interview. "Once we fix everything here, then fine, we’ll talk to the rest of the world."
The interview underscored a sharp shift for Greene, who had previously been a vocal defender of Trump. In recent months, she has become increasingly critical of the president and has said he placed too much emphasis on foreign and global issues rather than domestic policy, according to The Daily Wire's account of the exchange.
Greene and Trump have also clashed over the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has claimed that Greene became upset with him after he shared polling data suggesting she would perform poorly if she pursued a Senate run, The Daily Wire reported.
Responding on Monday via his Truth Social platform, Trump harshly criticized Greene, calling her "Marjorie 'Traitor' Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!)" and accusing her of abandoning his America First and MAGA agendas.
"The only reason Marjorie 'Traitor' Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!). Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD – She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple! Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person," Trump wrote, according to a post cited by The Daily Wire and other outlets.
Greene has announced that she will resign from Congress in January, more than a year before the end of her term, amid her growing criticism of Trump and broader Republican Party tensions. Her departure is expected to reduce the already narrow Republican majority in the House, which currently stands at 220-213, The Daily Wire reported.
Trump also directed his ire at CBS and its parent company, Paramount, saying he was angered that the network aired Greene's interview. In his Truth Social post, he argued that the "new ownership" of 60 Minutes "would allow a show like this to air" and claimed that Paramount had recently paid him millions of dollars in a settlement over what he called "fake reporting" about him. He further asserted that 60 Minutes host Lesley Stahl still owes him an apology over her handling of the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Those settlement and apology claims reflect Trump's own characterization of his dispute with the network; outlets including Forbes and the Los Angeles Times have reported that Paramount agreed to a multimillion-dollar settlement with Trump over a lawsuit related to the network's handling of an interview with then–Vice President Kamala Harris, without admitting wrongdoing.
