Torrey Holston and Jose Garcia Romero were sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for the 2019 killing of off-duty firefighter Christopher Randazzo during a robbery in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
The pair, then aged 19 and 20, were convicted in May of first-degree murder, robbery with a deadly weapon and criminal conspiracy. They shot Randazzo outside a resort and took his iPhone, red Nike sneakers and wallet containing $55.
Witness Cheyenne Papach testified that the men smiled and bragged after the shooting, with Holston saying he had "caught a body." Papach's boyfriend, Marco Rico, pleaded guilty in 2020 to related charges and drove the getaway car.
The judge said the jury was clear on both men's involvement. Garcia Romero's attorney noted an appeal is being considered and argued that trying the men together harmed his client, who was not alleged to have carried the gun.
