Two seriously injured in E4 crash outside Piteå

Five people were taken to hospital after a traffic accident on the E4 outside Piteå on Tuesday evening. Two of them, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 80s, are seriously injured and receiving care at Sunderby hospital. The crash involved a collision between two cars on Bergsviksbron.

The accident occurred just before 5 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, on Bergsviksbron south of Piteå in Norrbotten. Two cars collided and struck the median barrier, leading to the E4 being initially closed in both directions. Southbound traffic was released around 6 PM, and the road fully reopened about an hour later.

All five involved were taken to hospital by ambulance. The two most seriously injured—a woman in her 50s and a man in his 80s—are being treated at Sunderby hospital in Luleå, according to region Norrbotten. Three people sustained minor injuries: a man in his 45s and two young girls. The man and one of the girls have already been discharged, while the other girl is receiving care for minor injuries.

Police are investigating the crash as negligence in traffic and causing bodily harm. Interviews with those involved are planned, police said. No further details on the cause have emerged yet.

Region Norrbotten confirms the injured are stable but emphasizes the importance of road safety on highways like the E4. The accident disrupted traffic in the area during the evening, but the road is now open.
