The United Democratic Alliance has issued a 12-page open letter criticising former president Uhuru Kenyatta for alleged efforts to undermine President William Ruto's administration.
The letter, signed by UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar, states that Kenyatta has not accepted Ruto's 2022 election victory. It accuses him of harbouring resentment and operating behind the scenes to fuel opposition.
"It is a fact that William Ruto won the 2022 election against your wishes and political schemes. For once, be a democrat," the letter reads. The party also claims Kenyatta left behind a struggling economy with high debt and weakened institutions.
The criticism follows Kenyatta's remarks at a Jubilee Party meeting on May 25, where he condemned high taxes and the government's handling of recent fuel price protests. The UDA letter highlights what it describes as successes in education, agriculture and health under Ruto.
