On May 1, union leader María de Jesús Rodríguez urged President Claudia Sheinbaum for a tax reform to exempt overtime, year-end bonuses, and PTU from taxes. Sheinbaum marked Labor Day by highlighting labor advances and announcing a decree to match state workers' salaries to the IMSS average. The conference took place at a union headquarters in Mexico City.
During the morning conference on May 1, 2026, for Labor Day, María de Jesús Rodríguez Vázquez, general secretary of the Confederación Autónoma de Trabajadores de México, called on President Claudia Sheinbaum for a tax reform to complement the recent reduction of the workday from 48 to 40 hours.
She proposed exempting benefits like overtime, aguinaldo, and PTU (Participación de los Trabajadores en las Utilidades) from taxes.
Sheinbaum announced she would sign a decree that day ensuring state workers earn the IMSS average salary. She also mentioned an agreement to certify agricultural workers and highlighted achievements such as a 154% minimum wage increase over eight years, outsourcing elimination, and Afores commission reductions.
CTM leaders voiced support for the government, stressing national sovereignty defense.
