Uppsala raises parking fees from 5 to 35 kronor per hour

Uppsala municipality has decided on sharply increased parking fees that take effect on January 1, 2027. The hourly rate in areas such as Rosendal and Ulleråker rises from 5 to 35 kronor and fees are introduced around the clock in the city center.

After nine years of unchanged prices, Uppsala municipality is overhauling its entire parking fee system. Prices will to a greater extent be guided by an area's structure and population density rather than just proximity to the center.

Rafael Waters (S), chair of the street and community environment board, says the change aims to increase accessibility. He points out that the cityscape has changed and many areas have grown.

The opposition is critical. The Moderates believe the increases hit too broadly and pay insufficient attention to differences between neighborhoods. Sofia Andersson (M), municipal councilor, would rather build more parking spaces and make it easier for motorists to reach the city.

Residents in new zone B areas such as Industristaden and Kapellgärdet will face fees even at night and on Sundays. The monthly fee for residential parking permits rises from 400 to 700 kronor.
