Zayn Malik has revealed details of his upcoming fifth studio album, Konnakol, set for release on April 17. The announcement follows his recent Las Vegas residency, where he previewed new material including the lead single 'Die for Me,' due out on February 6. The album draws deeply from his cultural heritage, blending R&B-pop elements with percussive vocal traditions.
Zayn Malik, the 33-year-old former One Direction member, shared news of his fifth solo album, Konnakol, via social media and a press statement on February 4, 2026. The record is slated for release on April 17 through Mercury Records and Island Records U.K. It marks his return to the R&B-inflected pop style of his 2016 debut Mind of Mine, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in March. Like that album, Konnakol incorporates elements of Zayn's heritage, including an interlude in Urdu and inspirations from South Asian culture.
The title Konnakol refers to the South Indian Carnatic music practice of creating percussive sounds vocally. In his statement, Zayn explained: “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice, but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed.” He added, “I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music — this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”
Zayn previewed tracks from the album during his Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, which concluded recently. Performances included the unreleased lead single “Die for Me,” set for release on February 6, and an opening song fans call “Nusrat,” an Arabic name meaning victory. The setlist mixed new material with songs from Mind of Mine, Icarus Falls (2018), Nobody Is Listening (2021), and his latest, the acoustic-focused Room Under the Stairs (2024), produced with Dave Cobb. That album peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart.
The album artwork features Zayn's face merged with a snow leopard, a South Asian symbol of freedom and strength, first teased during the residency. This announcement comes amid activity from former bandmates: Harry Styles' fourth album arrives March 6, and Louis Tomlinson recently topped the U.K. chart. Zayn's 2024 debut solo tour included 21 shows in the U.K. and North America.
