The United States Justice Department approved the Paramount Skydance takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery in June. However, a lawsuit from a dozen states alleging monopoly has prompted the California Attorney General and others to seek a temporary restraining order.

Dave Meltzer stated that the sale will be delayed, contrary to the wishes of the companies involved. He noted that AEW wants the process completed quickly to advance to the next phase.

Meltzer explained that a merger of HBO Max and Paramount+ would create a stronger platform. This would place AEW and UFC in more homes worldwide, he said.

Paramount CEO David Ellison had aimed to finalize the $110 billion deal by late September. The exact timeline remains unclear amid the ongoing legal challenges.
